WASHINGTON - SEPTEMBER 09: National Executive Director of Council on American_Islamic Relations(CAIR) Nihad Awad holds a translated copy of the Quran as he speaks during a news conference at the headquarters of CAIR on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. A University of Chicago professor and a Muslim organization linked to the terror organization Hamas are teaming up to proclaim that American occupation of foreign lands is the reason for terrorism.
Word of the cooperation between the Council on America- Islamic Relations and University of Chicago political science professor Robert Pape over his new book, called "Cutting the Fuse: The Explosion of Global Suicide Terrorism and How to Stop It," comes from CAIR.
The organization announced in a news release that the book is a "powerful education tool" to challenge "Islamophobia" and that Pape will speak at CAIR's 16th annual banquet Saturday night.
Get "Muslim Mafia," the book that exposed CAIR from the inside out, autographed, from WND's Superstore!
CAIR cites the Chicago Project on Security and Terrorism's evaluation: "Through a close analysis of suicide campaigns by al-Qaida and in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Lebanon, Israel, Chechnya, and Sri Lanka, the authors provide powerful new evidence that, contrary to popular and dangerously mistaken belief, religion alone motivates only a tiny minority of these attacks. Instead, the root cause is foreign military occupation, which triggers secular and religious people to carry out suicide attacks."
A deeper level of cooperation between the Muslim group and the author, however, was revealed by the Investigative Project on Terrorism.
The website reported yesterday that Pape was "working secretly" with CAIR to "have its chapters around the country to buy [books] in bulk so they can manipulate the sales to move up the best-seller ranks."
The website said Pape concludes that terrorism is a "response" to "occupation," rather than having anything to do with Islam, which tells its followers to kill "infidels."
"That's appealing to CAIR, which court records show was part of a Hamas-support network in the United States," the IPT said. "Prosecutors say CAIR, which touts itself as the nation's leading Muslim civil rights organization, never withdrew from the conspiracy to support Hamas politically and financially. And the FBI cut off communication with CAIR in 2008, saying it won't resume until 'we can resolve whether there continues to be a connection between CAIR or its executives and Hamas.'"
IPT reported it reviewed e-mails that showed Pape sought help from CAIR, "hoping to have the Hamas-front group buy 1,000 advanced copies of his new book."
"Pape asserted in his e-mails and other communications to CAIR that the book would advance and reinforce CAIR's ideological views that it is the occupation of Arab lands that causes suicide bombings. CAIR's officials responded with enthusiasm to Pape's thesis and to his proposal for bulk purchases to artificially boost his rankings into the best-seller lists," IPT reported.
The organization quoted Pape's own e-mails that "pre-orders are especially helpful because they allow the press to increase the advertising for the book when it is published, and so help to build momentum for the message in the book – that ending Western occupation of Muslim countries is the best path for reducing the spread of suicide terrorism."
IPT reported Pape declined to respond to a request for comment.
In its announcement about Pape's coming presentation to CAIR, the organization's executive director, Nihad Awad, said, "This groundbreaking new book offers a powerful educational tool to be used in challenging Islamophobia that is based on the false linkage between Islam and suicide terrorism."
Awad said Pape will take part in a workshop on "Challenging Islamophobia" at the organization's CAIR leadership skills training conference, also being held Saturday.
Other speakers at the banquet will include ex-journalist Helen Thomas, who was forced out of her White House beat reporting position after she was caught on film saying that Jews should "get out" of Palestine.
IPT quoted Daniel Pipes of the Middle East Forum, who said while authors routinely try to generate sales, "there's an underhanded quality to this transaction."
IPT reported his concern is that an "academic" is "pushing a questionable theory with a group trying to deny the existence of Islamist violence."
The author's premise not only changes the subject of a critical conversation in today's world, it denies "realities and is helpful to the Islamists because they can say it has nothing to do with us," the report said.
IPT documented previous praise of the author by various CAIR officials, including the organization's Los Angeles chief, Hussam Ayloush, who has lobbied for people to read Pape's "Dying to Win."
The IPT report said the shooting deaths of 14 individuals, 13 adults and an unborn child, at Fort Hood – allegedly by Muslim Nidal Malik Hasan, disproves Pape's theory.
"Pape would argue that Hasan acted to stop U.S. troops from going to Afghanistan, furthering the occupation theory. But, Pipes notes, Hasan saw the American forces as Crusaders going to kill Muslims, so his entire perspective was colored by his religious identity. In hailing him as a hero, [terror recruiter Anwar al-]Awlaki called Hasan 'a man of conscience who could not bear living the contradiction of being a Muslim and serving in an army that is fighting against his own people,'" IPT reported.
U.S. counter-terrorism officials regard CAIR as a front group for the Egypt-based Muslim Brotherhood, the spawn of most of the major Islamic terrorist groups, including Hamas and al-Qaida. CAIR and some of its leaders were named unindicted co-conspirators in the largest terror finance case in U.S. history. The Washington, D.C.-based group is suing WND and a father-and-son team that conducted an undercover probe that came up with 12,000 pages of internal documents confirming CAIR's role as a front for the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas in the U.S. The findings were published in the WND Books best-seller "Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret Underworld That's Conspiring to Islamize America"
IMPORTANT NOTE: The CAIR legal attack on WND's author is far from over. WND needs your help in supporting the defense of "Muslim Mafia" co-author P. David Gaubatz, as well as his investigator son Chris, against CAIR's lawsuit. Already, the book's revelations have led to formal congressional demands for three different federal investigations of CAIR. In the meantime, however, someone has to defend these two courageous investigators who have, at great personal risk, revealed so much about this dangerous group. Although WND has procured the best First Amendment attorneys in the country for their defense, we can't do it without your help. Please donate to WND's Legal Defense Fund now.
